Samet Nangshe, Phang Nga: start before dawn
The viewpoint looks across the limestone islands of Phang Nga Bay and is especially compelling in first light. It is a strong choice for a landscape series, an establishing image for a destination film or a quiet travel portrait. Morning mist is possible in the rainy season, but never guaranteed.
For sunrise, treat it as a very early departure or an overnight nearby. Check current access, parking and viewpoint transport before committing a crew and equipment.
Phang Nga Bay: scale, layers and movement
From water level, the bay’s islands become a sequence of foregrounds and backgrounds. A boat can give a film motion and a photography brief varied compositions in one journey. It also creates operational limits: sea state, spray, limited working space and uncertain timing. Use camera protection and agree the route with the operator in advance.
For a commercial production, establish whether filming permissions, a private boat and location fees are needed. Keep a land-based option in reserve if weather makes boating unsuitable.
Railay, Krabi: cliffs meet the beach
Railay’s limestone walls and beach create a distinctly different frame from Phuket’s west coast. It suits wider travel imagery, adventurous couples and atmospheric brand stories. Railay is reached by boat from the Krabi side, so allow for transfers, boat schedules, tides and weather. A same-day dash from Phuket can leave too little time for the actual shoot.
Tourism Thailand describes the western beach as a place for sunset views. For a carefully lit campaign, stay nearby or plan an overnight rather than relying on a long return trip after dark.
Khao Sok, Surat Thani: forest and lake at a slower pace
Khao Sok and the Chiao Lan Lake area trade the open coast for rainforest, limestone peaks and water reflections. It is a compelling setting for a nature-led campaign or a slower travel story. It asks for more than a quick stop: plan an overnight stay, a suitable boat, weather protection and enough time to wait for the light.
Check national-park rules and any commercial filming requirements before the shoot. Protected places deserve a smaller footprint and a plan that respects local guidance.
Choose the trip that earns its production time
Outside Phuket, the question is not only “Is it beautiful?” Ask what the new setting adds to the final images, what daylight remains after travel, and whether the deliverables justify a larger crew day. A small editorial story can be flexible. A property launch or brand film needs a route, shot priorities and a weather plan.
Start with the Phuket location guide if you need a shorter shoot. If the wider region is part of the campaign, tell us the intended images and distribution when you request a quote.
